Every year, from April through to October, there is an extensive programme of cultural events around the island. These include music recitals, dance, poetry, theatre, art exhibitions, a chess competition, and demonstrations of traditional Lerian events such as weddings, threshing and so on.
There is also yacht racing, a squid fishing competition and, at the beginnng of August, the Alindia — a long-standing tradition of competitive water sports culminating in a fireworks display on a boat in Alinda bay.
When you are on the island, keep an eye open for posters advertising these events.
